Cable Knit and Camo For Winter

chunky-winter-sweater
Do you ever just walk into your closet or look into your drawers and feel bored with the clothes you have? This seems to happen to me more recently and I'm struggling for winter outfits that I really enjoy. Maybe it's my body still going through changes and trying to get back to pre baby weight, the fact that I'm not going into the office so my everyday wear has been more casual, or some pieces just feel over worn.

For some reason I usually save my camo pants for fall and spring but don't wear them often in the winter. I wanted to change it up from my leggings or the few pairs of jeans that I can zip up at this point, so I decided to break them out and give them a try.

If you caught my insta stories (@beautifully_candid) over the weekend you might have seen we ventured into Philly with the boys to kick off Valentine's Day week. The Philly auto show was going on and it had been years since Eric and I went to that location. We had been visiting the auto show in NYC for the past few years but wanted to check out Philly since we're now closer.

Our weather, like most of the country, has been so up and down lately. We saw 60s earlier in the week and then conveniently dropped down into the 20s over the weekend. We knew we would have to walk a few blocks in the city so we bundled up and ventured in. The convention center is right down the street from LOVE park so of course I couldn't pass up an opportunity to snap a family pic.

On our way over to the auto show, I saw a spot that I wanted to stopped off and grab a few pictures.  Off my jacket went, because #bloggersbelike #ineedthatshot. Haha the things some of us do to get that content #honesttalk.

Anyway, I really do love this cable knit sweater I mentioned I picked up a few weeks ago. It's not itchy at all and really cozy without being bulky. I love a chunky sweater but some of them can feel so uncomfortable under a jacket. You all know I can't pass up wearing a beanie, and I think the light colors of them complimented the camo print. My sneakers I grabbed at H&M on sale for $15 and they were really comfy to walk around in.

Within these quick five minutes I was freezing my little face off and the boys were running around playing tag and being so silly on the side. A wanted to jump in a pic with me and little nugget thought it was the funniest thing to run in front of Eric while he was taking pictures. It was pretty funny, though.

Traded In My Beanie For My Fedora And A Few Random Things

Oh, east coast winters. You have never been my favorite, but we manage to get along and pull through until the next season. I'm usually bundled up, running to and from the house to my car, and trying to get the kids buckled in before we all turn to icicles.

Every now and then we'll get a few mild days and that's when all of us feel so much better. One of those days happened to be this week so I took advantage of breaking out my semi winter outfit. It was more so fall inspired, but who really says you can't wear mustard or a fedora in the winer? If you follow me on instagram (@beautifully_candid) then you might have seen a few weeks ago I shared some polls and asked you all to help me do some shopping. This sweater was one I shared and decided to get it in this mustard color (since sold out but available and on sale in ivory).

It got me thinking, so many colors are related with seasons that sometimes it feels odd to be wearing them outside of that. It's a rare occasion to see someone wearing a coral colored sweater or a wine colored sundress. But I say, if you like it, go for it.

Trader Joe's Flowers:

The other day I needed to do some errands and of course it happened to be a day that it was pouring rain. When I got to the boys school and went to unload everyone, I realized the stroller was in Eric's car and not in my trunk. Womp, womp. Let's just say it made shopping in a down pour veryyyy interesting. But, I did come across a lot of people who were more than willing to hold doors and load things into my car #goodpeoplestillexist. I stopped by Trader Joe's and their lovely flower section caught my eye and these pretty sunflowers made their way home with me. It was the perfect pop of color to add a little cheer to our space.

Home Decor:

We sold a lot of our things before we moved because we knew there was a lot we didn't want to take with us. I feel like now that I have this blank slate it's been even harder to make a decision on how to furnish it. Some of what I have in mind doesn't seem to be in furniture stores and they all say to check online. That's always my first stop, but sometimes you need to see it in person. We ordered our bedroom furniture online and to be honest, I'm not in love with it.

All The Crumbs:

I just want to give a shoutout to my Roomba. That little robot sweeper helps keep my floors clean from my crumb monsters. We try so hard to limit eating and snacking at the table, but somehow goldfish crumbs make their way everywhere.

Girl, Get Your Nails Did:

I admit, up until the other day my nails haven't been painted since Christmas. That might have been the longest I've ever gone. Let's not even talk about my toes. And, of course with all of the bottle washing going on around here they've already started to chip. I've also never gotten a spray tan before but have one scheduled this week and I have no clue what to expect. I remember when my roommates in college got one and my other roommate and I were cracking up because they looked like they had been rolling around in the dirt. Let's hope they've improved in the last 10 years.

Precious Moments:

We had friends come over to visit with us and they had their two kids with them who were the cutest and so well behaved. My boys know how to use their manners and listen, but they definitely have their moments. Especially when people come over, it seems like it's purposeful and they think, how can we embarrass mom and dad now. Anyway, their son was so precious and kept calling baby C, baby Jesus. It could not have melted my heart anymore.

Unapologetically Me:

I don't want this to come off the wrong way or seem that I am being insensitive at all. I truly appreciate and value this blogging community, but sometimes it really irks me when people apologize for taking time away from blogging. I understand this is a career for many, but I don't really understand the need to apologize for stepping away. Don't get me wrong, I love reading all of your comments and interacting with all of you, but family, life, or just needing a break will always come first and that's something I'm just not sorry for. No hard feelings just had to get that off my chest.

Photobomb and Video Mishap:

On a lighter note, you guys, I have been cracking up. Here I am trying to look cute taking some pictures of the outfit I was feeling and Coaty had no shame and completely photobomb me. I shared this in my stories and so many of you thought it was the funniest thing, so obviously I had to share it here.

One of our good friends had a private gender reveal that they did at our house and had my sister and I take pictures and also capture it on video. Wellll, we were all sitting on the couch after and somehow part of my birth story came up so my sister, Eric, and I were talking about it. It was at the same time she was editing her video to send to her family and it somehow recorded our conversation. The volume on her phone was down and she didn't realize it even happened until she sent the video to her parents. I don't think I've stopped laughing since and I've watched it a ton of times. Eric and I will randomly start cracking up and we both know what we're laughing it. On that note (because there's a lot of notes around here), happy laughing friends and let's keep on smiling.

Stay White Jeans With Navy Colored Top

Ok, so it might be after Labor Day (just barely) and I don't know about you but I'm not ready to turn in my white jeans just yet.

Who ever made up that no white after Labor Day thing anyway? Most people think I'm crazy for even entertaining the idea of white jeans with two little sticky fingered nuggets, but little do they know {these} jeans have stay white denim technology. Denim technology? I asked myself the same thing.

Well this technology really does live up to its name. I've worn these many times and they are still just as white as when I got them. Whatever they got going on that repels spills and stains is some kind of genius. They seem to run true to size so I am wearing a size 4 in petites.

I recently came across {this} hi-lo shirt in navy (they have two other colors, but hurry limited inventory) and while I love the color navy, especially for fall, I wasn't sure if I would look drowned out in a longer shirt since I'm on the shorter side. The price sucked me in (too good to pass up) and I figured worst case scenario I just end up returning it. I was glad I went for it because I really like this top, especially with these jeans.

I recently wore {these} heels to a wedding and after finding they were quite comfortable I knew they would complete this look. The best part is every time I wear them people ask me if they're the Vince Camuto gladiator heels? Their shock is pretty entertaining when I tell them, nope, Target.

Off The Shoulder Tie Sleeve Look From Summer to Fall

I gave in. The off the shoulder look was bound to suck me in at some point. Now I'm just asking myself, why in the world did I wait so long?

It was always one of those looks that I liked on everyone else but wasn't sure if I would like how it looked on me. I think we've all been there, right?

I came across this top while shopping online at Express and decided to just go for it. I figured at that point it will be waiting for me at my doorstep, no pressure with making a decision right on the spot in the store, and I could try it on with different things I already own to really see if I like it. And guess what, I really like it!

I packed this with me for a recent trip and it ended up being the prefect top to wear as a transition piece. I wore it with shorts during the day while it was still warm out, and then slipped into my new favorite black pants {here} at night.

This top comes in several different colors and worked great with flats, heels, or wedges (mine were old similar here). I ordered this in a x-small since it is more loose fitting and I didn't want it to look too baggy on me. It fit great and still gave me enough length to tuck it in which gave it a different look.

Needless to say I'm already on the hunt for another off the shoulder top. Lesson learned, just try it on (you think I would have learned by now). I guess it's true, you never know until you try.

Pinstripe Flutter Sleeve Dress In The Windy City

I love simple dresses that don't take a lot of effort and better yet, they're comfortable to wear. I scored this dress on a sale rack at Banana Republic (still currently on sale) right before I left for my Chicago trip and knew it was definitely making its way into my travel bag. In case you missed that recap you can read more about my trip {here}.

I loved the little details on this dress that gives it a feminine fun flirty look. The subtle pinstripe pattern which run at different angles, gives it the ability to dress up or down. I also wore this to work with heels and got a lot of compliments on it.

Walking around in the city I knew I wanted comfortable shoes for that. My Tory Burch cameron slide sandals were perfect. Mine are older and I can't find them in the same color anymore but I did find a similar pair here.

One of my favorite purchases has to be my new crossbody saddle bag. I'm so happy I got this bag because it came every where with me on my trip. It was the perfect size to carry around yet still held a good amount of things. It has two inside pockets that make it easy to carry your phone and keys and the best part is this bag comes in multiple colors. I'm contemplating buying it in the blue and black and for $39 I feel like it's a steal.

Beach Vacation Wear Essentials

Beachwear

The sound of the waves crashing, palm tress blowing, and a tropical cocktail are calling my name. I have been anxiously awaiting our upcoming vacation. It couldn't be coming at a better time for us. We have so much going on in our little lives (I'll be sharing more about that soon) that this vacation will be just what we need.

It's also our first vacation as a family of four (we really say 5 because our dog is definitely my baby) so there is a lot of excitement happening all around. Although, I'm probably going to have to take my own advice about packing for the beach with a toddler and a baby. Hopefully I'll have some more tips to share now that we have more than one little nugget traveling.

This will be our third time heading to the Dominican. It holds a special place in our hearts because that's where we got engaged. We are staying at a family friendly resort with lots of activities for the nuggets. I'll be sure to share a recap of our adventure in the next few weeks.

Now let's talk beachwear! I decided this year I was breaking out of my comfort zone for swimwear. I usually stick to the same basic two piece with detachable straps (I'm not a big fan of tan lines) and keep it at that. This year I'm going with several different styles and will be incorporating one pieces, two pieces, and some patterns and colors I wouldn't normally wear. Hey, might as well live a little, right?

Floral Kimono-Maternity or Not

In case you haven't noticed we've kind of been on this floral kick lately. My gorgeous sister Faith, rocked these floral print shorts. I on the other hand still have my awkward picture moments. But you know what, we're having fun, and styling a pregnant body isn't always easy, especially at 36 weeks. This simple black dress and floral kimono are both from H&M. Neither of them are maternity so I plan on wearing them after the baby gets here. I love pieces that can easily transition into different seasons, and stretchy dresses are my bff right now.

Relaxed summer outfits are my favorite, so when I came across these floral drawstring shorts I just had to share. I love a great print and floral just seems so fitting for the summer. Did I mention these were drawstring? Let's be real, that's a great feature and I'm all about fashion with comfort. A simple black tank and statement necklace finishes off the look.

Teed Up Style

So this wasn't our most glamours fashion photo post but we sure got a few laughs in. We started thinking, when you're rocking a t-shirt and jeans that's just what it should be, fun. We definitely enjoy a comfortable and relaxed look.

Back in the fall we also did a post about wearing t-shirts and jeans but styled it a little differently. When we heard the next how I style it linkup was going to be about teed up style, we knew we were jumping on board. Even little man wanted to get in on the action and demanded to be in one of the pictures. I mean come on now. Little model in the making?

When we think of t-shirts we always go for a pair of skinny jeans and comfortable shoes. Sierra is wearing a fitted maternity tee and Faith is wearing a relaxed flowy tee. We decided to finish these looks off with a statement necklace to add a little something extra.

Chambray Shirt Styled Two Ways

Chambray shirt styled for maternity

Styling the bump. Some women love it, others have a tough time with it. I guess if I had to really think about it I probably fall somewhere in the middle. I don't mind it, but it can be frustrating dealing with a changing body and finding clothes that you feel comfortable in. If you remember my thoughts on maternity clothes post {read here} I'm not a yay I get to wear maternity clothes kind of girl.

So I decided to show you some simple looks with pieces from both maternity clothes and regular clothes. A chambray shirt can be so versatile and either dressed up or dressed down. I'm wearing it here with a comfortable pair of maternity leggings (they are such a lifesaver), maternity tank, and flats.

Old Navy Chambray Shirt

When I'm not wearing my chambray shirt for a causal look you can find me putting it with a maxi dress and taking it to the office. Maxi dresses are great for summer and one of those pieces that you don't have to get specific for maternity. This dress was from Marshall's and stretched perfectly for my growing belly. Since it's sleeveless when I wear it to work I throw on my chambray shirt and I'm set.

Chambray Shirt and Maxi Dress

It's light enough that I can still move around and run after little man when I need to. I think he enjoyed me taking pictures the most because he found a flowerbed and made himself right at home in the dirt.

T-shirt and Jeans-Call us Comfy

As two women who enjoy fashion we love a stylish outfit, fun heels, and great accessories. But, for those days when we are just lounging around or playing and chasing after little man, a good pair of jeans and a t-shirt are all we need. Not only are jeans and a t-shirt comfortable, but there are some fun ones floating around the shelves of retailers that add a little something extra to the stereotypical jeans and t-shirt look.

As a mom, I am always looking for ways to be comfortable, practical, yet still true to my sense of style. Being a mom to a little boy I decided to have fun with this one and embrace my inner superhero. Captain America anyone? Target has some great superhero t-shirts to choose from.

Check out this Voila t-shirt my sister is sporting from Old Navy. They also have some other great t-shirts with fun sayings. Now a days you can take a simple dressed down outfit and add a fun pair of heels to turn your daytime relaxed looked into a transition outfit for some night time fun.

What's your favorite outfit for just hanging around and making it casual? Who's with us on comfort wear?

We hope you enjoyed this twist on our typical Mommy Monday post...check out where we are linking!
